If you're wondering if supervision has to be boring, judgemental, just another thing to get through, then you have the wrong supervisor. We often talk about good fit and chemistry, and that also has to be the case for supervision. If you have a supervisor you can't be honest with, then how can you make sure you are working safely and ethically? I am passionate about making sure anyone working with vulnerable people is a safe and ethical practitioner, but that doesn't come from making sure people follow rules and regulations; it comes from allowing someone the freedom to be honest without fear of judgement or repercussions. I can promise you, at this point in my career, I have heard just about everything! You need a supervisor as part of your support team, who you know is supporting you and your work when you need it. My supervisees know I will be there for them in a safeguarding emergency. They know they can WhatsApp me with some thoughts or worries they may have. They know they can book in an extra half hour if they need it between sessions.

They know we can talk about life, business, self-esteem, confidence, family stuff, money worries - why? Because it all informs the kind of practitioner you are, so it's all welcome in the supervision room. Let's talk if you want more from your supervision
